Enamel

This is the layer that covers the outer part of the tooth.

Enamel is the hardest tissue in the body. It protects the tooth from external aggressions.

Dentin

It is located between the pulp and the enamel.

It is a hard tissue crossed by a network of tubules which communicate with the nerve of the tooth.

Pulp

It is the central part of the tooth.

It contains the nerves and blood vessels that supply and supply the tooth.

Each person normally has 20 milk teeth and 32 permanent teeth including wisdom teeth. Sometimes the germs of wisdom teeth are absent.

Each jaw has in adults:

• 4 incisors which have a straight edge. They are used to grab food and cut it.

• 2 canines which have a point and allow food to be shredded.

• 4 premolars and 6 molars.

Premolars and molars are made up of several points (called cusps). These are large teeth that allow food to be crushed.

In principle, incisors and canines have only one root, while premolars and molars have several.
